Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds

Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds, was easily one of my favorite books that I read in 2019. It was the second book that I have read that has been written in verse and I found it to be very interesting. This writing style really makes the story more eery and intriguing to the reader. At least, that's how it was for me when I read it.

This story takes place in an elevator where our main character is riding down with a gun in order to go and get revenge on the person who killed his brother. For each floor that the elevator stops at on his way down, he encounters the ghosts of the people from his past. People that have fell victim to the horrible cycle of gun violence. Conversations are had between all of these characters. Ultimately leaving the main character with a choice to be made.

If you are looking for an exciting, yet well-paced story then this is the book for you. Reading Jason Reynolds' A Long Way Down, it is easy to tell why it has won so many awards as a young adult fiction novel. It has won the Newbery Honor Award, Coretta Scott King Honor Award, Printz Honor, and so many more. I highly recommend this book. It is a quick and easy read, but it is full of twists and turns on every page.
