Someone We Know by Shari Lapena

If you are looking for a good mystery thriller to dive into, then Someone We Know by Shari Lapena is the book for you. It reads very similar to books such as Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train. Every page brings up new information that is exciting and causes the reader to want to know more. It is one book that I could not put down.

The book is told through multiple points of views of the neighbors who are in the middle of a murder investigation when a woman who lived nearby is found dead in the trunk of her car. Throughout the book, everyone is a suspect. In addition to dealing with the interrogations from the police and the thought of the killer being someone that they possibly know, each family is also dealing with some sort of personal drama.

Everyone in this story is considered to be a suspect and one point or another.
Robert Pierce is the husband of the missing (and soon to be discovered as deceased), Amanda Pierce. His wife had told him that she was going on a weekend shopping trip with a friend of hers and had left on the morning of Friday, September 29th. He doesn't report her missing until Monday, October 2nd.

Olivia and Paul Sharpe have a sixteen year old son, Raleigh. Olivia has discovered that he has been breaking into their neighbors homes and hacking into their personal computers. Finding out plenty of secrets in the process on his parents so-called "close friends". But, he is just a kid and doesn't want to get into more trouble with his parents than he already has. He has been breaking into many of their neighbors homes, but only confesses to his parents about two of them: the home of Carmine Torris and the home of Robert and Amanda Pierce. Olivia makes her son show her these two homes and then proceeds to write anonymous apology letters to both of the occupants.

Glenda and Keith Newell have a sixteen year old son, named Adam. Adam has a severe drinking problem that neither of his parents can seem to be on the same page about addressing. Glenda is best friends with Olivia Sharpe and they confide in each other throughout the book as the rollercoaster of this investigation unfolds.

At the head of the Amanda Pierce murder investigation are Detectives Webb and Moen. A male and female partnership that seem to compliment each other very well. He is hard hitting and outwardly determined to find the person who killed Amanda Pierce and she is calm and collected with a warm and understanding smile that makes the people she interrogates feel oddly comfortable.

Throughout the book, these are the characters points of views that the reader gets to hear from. This is especially true of the women in these relationships. At some point or another, every woman is suspicious of their husband of being the one who Amanda Pierce was having an affair with. Robert Pierce, her husband, never seems to truly escape suspicion either; from the police, his neighbors. All anybody really knows is that whoever did kill Amanda Pierce, it's almost certainly, someone they know.
